What We Do

Insects and spiders are the most important piece of our environmental puzzle.

The GEC exists to create a paradigm shift in public perception of insects and propel entomological research and conservation forward by using the field of entomology as the foundation for all environmental action.

Entomology Without Borders

We are a collaborative network comprising entomologists (amateur and professional), researchers, educators, artists, philanthropists, policymakers, and enthusiasts from around the world. The GEC serves as a unified platform for fostering cooperation, sharing knowledge, and driving progress in the field of entomology.

Research

At the core of the GEC’s objectives is the promotion of research that addresses critical issues related to insect biodiversity, ecology, behavior, and physiology. By facilitating communication and collaboration among experts across various disciplines, the coalition aims to accelerate scientific discoveries and develop effective strategies for insect conservation and discovery.

Conservation

The coalition actively engages with governments, non-governmental organizations, industries, and local communities to advocate for evidence-based policies and practices that support insect conservation efforts and change the global attitudes toward insects to help turn their negative reputation around.

How We Contribute →

Education

It all starts with education and outreach. We provide resources, training programs, educational initiatives, and open research expeditions to the public to inspire and foster appreciation for the incredibly important behaviors, adaptations, and environmental roles insects play in maintaining global ecological balance.

EXPEDITION ENTOMOLOGY

A large part of our work to advance biological research is to open the process to all, regardless of academic background. So we develop partnerships with biological field stations across the globe to craft expeditions and new research initiatives conducted by intrepid travellers, not just entomologists, with a true sense of pioneering adventure. Participants experience some of the most remote, untouched, and critical habitats on the planet while contributing to actual scientific discovery and conservation, often times becoming published researchers while on vacation. This generates much-needed revenue for each partner station, with additional profits donated back to continue their missions. Additionally, these expeditions fund our grant and scholarship program distributed annually to applicants (individuals, researchers, students, stations, etc.).

Grants & Scholarship

A portion of the profits from our expeditions and products are pooled with donations to create our Grant & Scholarship program. Funds awarded to applicants (ALL are welcome to apply) annually for innovation, outreach, research, and studies in entomology.
